A local sushi restaurant is taking over a location that was formerly home to Michelin-starred Sushi Ginza Onodera for seven years.
Bondi Sushi opens Friday in an approximately 1,800-square-foot space, located at 461 Fifth Ave. in Midtown.
It features a 30-foot solid Honoki wood counter imported from Japan, family-style banquettes upholstered in blue ostrich, circular captain’s tables, granite tabletops and quilted fabric wall panels.
In addition, this is Bondi Sushi’s only New York City location that offers Wagyu sando, a shareable dish. Entrees range from $22 to $75.
Twenty employees work at this location.
The lease is for 10 years. Asking rent was around $30,000 per month. Masonre’s David Abrams and Jeff Jacobson represented Bondi Sushi on the deal with the landlord, SL Green.
Bondi Sushi offers a “refined but approachable take on Japanese dining,” according to a statement. The brand, known for its premium nigiri selection, currently has seven New York City locations. This will be its largest.
